The Southern Cross Grammar community has established an outstanding and innovative school. The staff have created a quality, student-centered teaching and learning program based on high levels of personalisation. Our community is well known for welcoming new families, staff and students to our beautiful school.
We are delighted to extend this warm welcome to Southern Cross Grammar’s new Principal, Mr Matthew Dodd.

After an extensive search and screening process, including great interest from local, interstate and overseas candidates, the Board was unanimous in the decision to select Mr Dodd as Principal. We have spent many hours over six months getting to know Mr Dodd and we have found him to be highly intelligent, good humoured, clear thinking, caring and insightful. His extensive experience, along with his clear commitment to and enthusiasm for learning and teaching, impressed the Board throughout the process.
As an experienced Foundational Head, Mr Dodd has a unique insight into the work Mr Ponsford, the staff, students and families have undertaken to establish Southern Cross Grammar.
Mr Dodd is an outstanding educator, experienced Principal and has demonstrated his commitment to continuous learning through his completion of a Masters in School Leadership. He recently expanded his breadth of understanding and experience in education through his consulting work across Primary, Secondary and Tertiary educational settings.
As an experienced Foundational Head, Mr Dodd has a unique insight into the work Mr Ponsford, the staff, students and families have undertaken to establish Southern Cross Grammar. His rapid understanding of Southern Cross Grammar and his clear commitment to work with our community to grow the capacity of our school is well aligned with our strategy, culture and focus on future focused learning.
Mr Dodd recognizes the significant legacy of Mr Ponsford and his family’s contributions to establish Southern Cross Grammar. He is honoured to be provided with the opportunity to build on Mr Ponsford’s success and is committed to working with the outstanding team at Southern Cross Grammar to continue to move the school forward confidently toward bright futures for our students and wider community.
Mr Dodd will commence his role ready to lead the school from Semester 2 2020. Mr Ponsford, the Board and Mr Dodd have been in contact over the summer break and we have scheduled regular exchanges throughout the first semester to ensure a smooth transition.
There will be a number of occasions in Term 2 to recognise the work of Mr Ponsford and to celebrate and acknowledge the success of our staff, students and families under Mr Ponsford’s leadership, and to formally welcome our new Principal of Southern Cross Grammar.
